What is Classical Education? And how did I get into this?

The year was 1999 and I was a senior at Oklahoma Baptist University in the small town of Shawnee, Oklahoma. I had heard about an upcoming lecture on "Democracy, Tocqueville, and Tolkien", all those were subjects I knew nothing about. After attending the lecture, I purchased the lecturer's signed book "The Devil Knows Latin" and devoured it. The book made so much sense to me and I thought to myself: When I have kids I will give them a classical education. Here is a link to a review of the aforementioned book (https://www.forewordreviews.com/reviews/the-devil-knows-latin/).
The year was 2013, a multitude of events (death and cancer) along with God's nudge for me to consider staying home and having a richer life led my husband and me to enroll our kids in a Classical Christian school. I had yearned to give my kids a better education than what they were receiving and felt so ungrateful at times. Finally, my dream of embarking on a Classical education journey had arrived and we went with both feet, (or should I say both kids) in.
When people ask me about Classical education I attempt to summarize it by explaining the 3 developmentally based stages of education namely grammar, logic, and rhetoric all the while praising the genius and authority of the Greek philosophers who developed the method. You don't have to be a psychologist or neuroscientist to delight in seeing the many ways in which human development and cognitive sciences are so beautifully applied and harmonized in a Classical education. Classical Christian Education is simply good to the mind, body, and soul. It transforms Classical education into a holistic tool of formation. You may still be left wondering about what the components of Classical (and also of Classical Christian) Education are. I am so glad you asked. Here is a list of readings that will help you understand.
